2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

History/Overview

Introduced in 2018, the Stelvio is Alfa Romeo’s first-ever crossover SUV model. It’s the most recent addition to the Italian brand’s North American lineup, following the 4C coupe/convertible and the Giulia compact sedan.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

Alfa Romeo has streamlined the 2021 Stelvio’s trim lineup from seven to four, offering this compact crossover in Sprint, Ti, Ti Sport and Quadrifoglio packages. Ti and Ti Sport also gain new standard features, which we’ve detailed below.

Available Trims

Stelvio’s Sprint, Ti and Ti Sport trims use a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed transmission and AWD. The high-performance Quadrifoglio gets a 2.9L turbo V6, which is also mated to the eight-speed/AWD combo.

Standard Features

Alfa Romeo Stelvio Sprint comes with leather upholstery, navigation, 18-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, 7.0-inch digital gauge display, a DNA drive mode selector, bi-xenon headlights, Brembo front brakes, heated front seats with 10-way power, remote start, keyless entry with push-button start, an 8.8-inch infotainment display, a leather-trimmed shifter and steering wheel, and forward collision warning with all-speed automatic emergency braking.

Ti trim adds 19-inch wheels, 3D navigation, a hands-free tailgate, satellite radio, dark grey oak dash trim, a dual-pane sunroof, limited slip rear differential, and dark exhaust tips.

Ti Sport gains 20-inch wheels, a wireless charging pad, heated rear seats, a sport-tuned suspension, aluminum cabin trim, sport seats, and a sport rear diffuser.

Finally, Quadrifoglio models get carbon fibre interior trim, high-performance brakes, DNA Pro drive modes with a race setting, a torque-vectoring rear differential, adaptive damping suspension, leather/Alcantara upholstery, and a dual-mode quad exhaust.

Key Options

Sprint and Ti offer a performance package of paddle shifters and limited-slip rear differential.

Sprint’s sport and sound package adds a dual-pane sunroof and an upgraded stereo.

Sprint’s active driver assist 1 option bundles blind spot assist, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with full stop, auto-dimming side mirrors, automatic high beams, front and rear park assist, lane departure warning, a sport steering wheel, perforated leather shifter, and a solar control windshield. Ti and Ti Sport can add an upgraded driver assist group that also adds intelligent speed assist, driver attention alert, traffic jam assist, and traffic sign recognition.

A premium package builds on Ti and Ti Sport with a 115-volt power outlet, cargo rails and net, headlight washers, a Harman/Kardon stereo; Ti’s version also gets heated rear seats and wireless phone charging.

The Ti lusso bundle adds 19-inch wheels, a beige headliner, leather dash and door trim, and a luxury steering wheel. Ti Sport and Quadrifoglio can add a carbon package that brings carbon fibre trim inside and out, and some black exterior trim pieces.

All four Stelvio trims offer a Nero Edizione package that adds various exterior trim elements in black.

Fuel Economy

As of this writing, Alfa had not published its 2021 fuel consumption estimates for the Stelvio. However, we expect those figures to be the same as, or similar to, last year’s ratings of 10.8/8.3 for four-cylinder models, and 13.9/10.3 for the Quadrifoglio.

Competition

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s key competitors are the Porsche Macan, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Infiniti QX50 and Acura RDX. Other upscale – but less sporty – small crossovers include the Buick Envision, Lincoln’s Nautilus, the Volvo XC60, and Lexus’s NX.
